My granddaughter Trinity was taught by her friend Weston, how to pound smoked and dried KOHO salmon.
This special technique helps to soften the salmon that has been smoked slowly for 8 days.
Trinity is part Tsimshian from northern BC and Weston is a member of the Qualicum Fist Nations, and has learned many dying traditions from his grandmother.
This was also a practice that I had never been taught until earlier the same day the children were doing it.
Very thankful to still be learning these ancient practices.
