ABOUT BILL- "Isn`t it always?"

"I was born in a beautiful wet northern town called Prince Rupert, approximately 30 miles south of my Fathers birthplace called Lax Kwa`alaams, which means `place of the wild roses. His powerful Indian name was `Hyemass`, which means Leader or Warrior of Nation`.

I have always been interested in creative exploration, starting at the early age of 4 years old, mostly enjoying the pen and pencil illustration process, mostly choosing anything around me to draw in fine detail.

Aboriginal art wasn`t an interest of mine, and our Tsimshian culture and traditions weren`t a part of my life hardly at all, until 1979 when I was electrocuted while charging batteries on my commercial fishing vessel. After a year of recovery I was accepted into the prestigious K`san Indian Art School in Hazelton B.C. where the master teachers got me thoroughly addicted to this amazing and mysterious artform.

Needless to say my recovery from my accident led me into a wonderful and illustrious career that has taken my art into outerspace and overseas for a totem pole project in Hong Kong, as an Artist in Residence program at the Canadian International School there.

My journey now is going full circle from designing, painting, jewelry and wood carving, to illustrating and writing childrens educational and storybooks. i love the idea of better educating children and keeping our old stories alive through modern storytelling methods.
